A group of construction workers, tribe representatives and state officials who support the proposal to build the St. Regis Mohawk Casino, organized a rally to call for an immediate conclusion to the approval procedure.
“Upon receiving final approvals, we can all look toward the benefits that will be gained by the tribe, Sullivan County, the Village of Monticello, the Town of Thompson and the State of New York,” Tribe Sub-Chief Stacy Adams said during a speech.
Casino supporters claim that the project will generate more than 5,500 construction jobs and about 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. They also say that the casino will mean $3 billion in revenues for the state and will bring the region back to life.
Opponents to the project state that the casino will have a negative impact and will cause gambling problems.
